Destination Croatia

The Caribbean of Europe

The coast of Croatia with its mild climate, lush vegetation, picturesque villages and historic towns is a beautiful sailing holiday destination. Many say that Croatia is the Caribbean of Europe. The mainland is protected by a chain of about 1000 islands, so that even with more wind there are hardly any big waves. Sailing trips in Croatia are therefore very suitable for sailors without sailing knowledge.
The infrastructure for yacht tourism in Croatia is excellent. On the one hand there are many marinas with well-kept sanitary facilities, some even with a swimming pool. In addition, many of the anchor bays are equipped with buoys, which makes sense not only because of the sometimes poor anchorage. Because only with buoys the meanwhile enormous number of approx. 3000 (!) charter yachts finds room in many bays.

Territory overview

The Istrian peninsula lures with wooded coasts and green bays. The lively port city of Pula lies on the southern tip of Istria. Its historical sights, enchanting beaches and proximity to the scenic island of Brijuni make Istria a special destination.

Route suggestions from Pula

The islands off Zadar and Šibenik as well as the Kornati archipelago are located off the northern Dalmatian section of the Croatian coast. For a cruise with a lot of time in the National Park Kornati, a port of departure in Northern Dalmatia is therefore ideal.

Routenvorschag ab Zadar

The coastal section of Central Dalmatia runs from the Sibenik area, Primosten in southeastern direction past Trogir to Split and beyond with the offshore islands Ciovo, Solta, Brac, Vis and Hvar.
The southern islands of Dalmatia offer sailors an interesting mix of exciting sailing stages, quiet anchorages and lively cities.

Climate

Mittel-Dalmatien (Split)

Croatia's climate is characterized by the Dinaric Mountains, which run almost parallel to the coast in a northwest-southeast direction through the country.  The Croatian Adriatic coast with its islands is dominated by a Mediterranean climate with a hot, dry summer, mild, rainy spring and autumn and a damp, often stormy winter.
In the summer months, air temperatures far above 30 °C and water temperatures up to 25 °C are not uncommon in the Dalmatian Adriatic.

Best travel time: May to October

Central Dalmatia (Split)

During the summer months, the Adriatic is generally characterised by weak winds. Sea winds reach up to 5 Beaufort in the afternoon and ease during the night. The land winds in the morning are weaker with up to 3 Beaufort.
